Online sportsbook machines are a new way for people to place wagers on a variety of sporting events. These kiosks allow players to place bets quickly, and often with minimal human interaction. The machine will scan a ticket and determine if it is a winner, then issue the winnings to the player. The sports betting industry has taken a big step forward with the introduction of these machines.
New Jersey’s sportsbook market launched in June 2018, only a few months after PASPA was repealed. The state’s roster of legal sportsbooks now includes nine online sites, as well as five retail sportsbooks at the state’s casinos. Among the first to launch were DraftKings and FanDuel, both of which are well-known brands in the US.
Wyoming’s online sportsbook launch in 2021 was both momentous and anti-climactic, thanks to the state’s relatively small population and reluctance to embrace gambling. The Equality State’s roster of online sportsbooks, however, now features four top-tier sites, including DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars and FanDuel, so Wyoming residents have a decent selection of options.
In January, Ohio will join the list of states with legal sports betting, with retail and mobile sportsbooks launching across the state. The launch will include sites from top-tier brands, such as DraftKings, FanDuel and BetRivers, and it’ll also feature a host of in-person sportsbooks at the state’s racinos.
Colorado’s sportsbooks are primarily located in the towns of Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek. These small gambling establishments are isolated from larger markets, so the ability to offer online sports betting is key for their success. The state’s online sportsbooks offer competitive odds and a wide range of betting options, including future bets and proposition bets.
Kentucky’s sportsbooks have a unique business model, with their sports betting offerings tied to their racetrack locations. This arrangement allows the track to offer a diversified set of online sports betting options, while also limiting their liability. This approach is a smart one, and the state’s sportsbooks are already profitable in their first year of operation.
Oklahoma’s conservative political climate and its reluctance to accept gambling money have made it difficult to bring legal sports betting to the state. Despite an ambitious effort in 2021, the legislature was unable to pass a bill that would have allowed sportsbooks on tribal lands. Nevertheless, Oklahomans have plenty of other gambling options, including Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS). The state’s most popular DFS providers serve the Heart of Dixie with no apparent pushback from law enforcement or other government agencies. Despite the fact that Oklahoma continues to be one of the most gambling-hostile states in the country, it’s likely that the state will legalize sports betting soon. In the meantime, its residents can still gamble at offshore sites that operate outside of US laws.
